Andy Popplewell

Andy is our resident service engineer, providing service and repairs, both in our onsite workshop and for many other recording studios, musicians and artists across Greater Manchester and Northern England (as well a smattering of clients who travel from as far as the south coast for his servicing skills)   Built first synth, mixer and drum machine aged 17 at secondary school. Left School with A levels and trained at the BBC. Qualified as Radio Broadcast engineer in 1986. Freelance service engineer in the Pro audio industry since 1987. UK service engineer for Lyrec UK working on high speed audio cassette duplication and automatic cassette loaders. Lyrec TR532 and TR533 multitracks, and FRED and FRIDA stereo tape machines. Andy specialises in analogue tape machines and mixing consoles plus teaching basic electronics and maintenance/repairs/soldering techniques at SSR in Manchester. He was Oldham College's Media Centre Tech for approx. 3 years in the late 1990's and has been baking and transferring analogue tapes since 2004. Previous clients include: Aha, Flock of Seagulls, ABC, Bucks Fizz, Lisa Stansfield, Section 25, 52nd Street, Paul Young (Sad Cafe), Dollar.
